In the bustling heart of fashion education at the Istituto Marangoni, a renowned university that breathes life into aspiring fashionistas there was an event that stood out from the rest—a ‘Careers Employability Panel’ discussion featuring, among others, Charmain Gyles-Ferguson, the Founder & MD of Outside The Box Recruitment. As a beacon of knowledge in the fashion industry, Charmain was invited to contribute to the event because of her deep well of industry experience so she could offer tangible, real current advice that the students could act upon immediately and ideally improve their chances of success when entering the world of work.

Charmain stressed the significance of research before stepping into the interview room. “Knowing the brand you are interviewing for is crucial,” she said, her words resonating with the eager audience. “Your appearance and demeanour should align seamlessly with the brand’s ethos. It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about embodying the brand’s culture.”

She cautioned against the perils of talking excessively, emphasising the power of concise and direct communication. “Listen and answer the questions asked of you, and a smile always helps” she advised.
