Outside The Box Recruitment is excited to be headhunting for a SENIOR BUYER of WOMENSWEAR (generic).

Our client is based and designs a full womenswear, range in Australia. They have a large global presence and is known for their effortlessly wearable and timeless collections with 80% of the collections is sustainable.

This role is responsible for actively seeking out the newest trends across women’s fashion in line with the company’s strategy, ensuring that the product range remains relevant to our customers. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the link between design and production, ultimately to deliver a product range that follows brand vision.

Additional to the basic salary, is a working sponsorship, relocation package for the family and flight home once a year.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Development and Sourcing

▪ Build clear ranging frameworks, to ensure that product is developed in line with our key strategies, considering costing, grading, end use and trend

▪ Lead and direct design to develop product in line with our brand expectations and timeframes

▪ Ensure brief dates are met by ensuring that all frameworks are handed over to design on time and maintaining regular communication with design team

▪ Ensure that the customer mindset is considered by market, ensuring that all markets receive a commercially balanced range suitable for their needs

▪ Source new product categories and factories in reaction to new trends and opportunities to drive performance

Commercial Aptitude

▪ Alongside Department/ Market Planners, analyse trade performance, extracting key messages to make trading decisions to drive department performance

▪ Act with pace to ensure that all trading actions are signed off with management and executed in a timely manner

▪ Summarise performance to senior leadership/ Executive teams and in best and worst to ensure that all stakeholders are aware of both performance and forward strategies

▪ Work with suppliers to minimise repeat lead times to maximise trade

▪ Push / pull stock in line with forecasted stock holdings– challenge suppliers for repeat dates, offer suggestions for cancellations and reductions to minimise business risk

▪ Demonstrate a sound knowledge of local and overseas markets competitors, and reference these in regard to potential opportunity, trade performance and future strategy

▪ Seek regular feedback from competitors, suppliers and external sources with respect to the trading environment 

Financial Accountability

▪ Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the financial parameters of the department ▪ Work alongside the Planner to ensure that key financial parameters are being met and that robust strategies are in place to achieve budgets

▪ Utilise weekly trade reports and forward projections to trade the department, offering ideas to maximise trade and minimise risk to the budget

▪ Ensure that ranges are built in line with budgeted financial parameters and that all budgeted targets are met

▪ Manage air / sea mix of the business ensuring profit is preserved

▪ Drive post season SWOT and forward strategy in liaison with the Planner

▪ Demonstrate a clear understanding of the flex in the department, utilising the critical path to potentialize sales and suppliers will be challenged to meet the needs of the business

▪ Intake options will be in line with budget and any occurrences of over – optioning will be addressed and rectified ahead of stock arriving in the business

▪ Trading cards will be utilised when planning the range and all trading cards will be accurate and up to date

▪ Senior Buyer will have a clear understanding of financial documents including the WSSI, Budget Sheets, Category Plan and can confidently discuss the key actions to meet these targets and can challenge or adjust the metrics where necessary

Range Building

▪ In line with department strategies, build a balanced range reflective of market mindset and department

▪ Ensure that ranges are built in line with market key dates, and demonstrate an awareness of carryover, product lifecycle and markdown rounds when booking a range

▪ Work with the Planner to ensure that product is backed with relevant grade and depth, challenging and providing supporting evidence where necessary to ensure that the best outcome is reached for the business

 ▪ Work with supply base to provide solutions to ensure that each market has a balanced range regardless of restraints (e.g. MOQs, shipments)

▪ 3rd Party Development will be in line with customer requirements to drive sales 

Team Management

▪ Build a strong team with a focus on succession planning

▪ Provide a clear vision for the future of the department- ensuring that team members at all levels are aware of their contribution to creating department successes

▪ Provide regular ongoing feedback to ensure all team members are meeting their deadlines and KPIs ▪ Build effective relationships with the team, suppliers, and key stakeholders across the business

▪ Monitors external supplier performance and can confidently challenge and discuss improvements to drive the best outcomes for the business Cross 

Functional Project / Divisional Management

▪ Confidently undertake stretch projects as required to help drive top line performance and contribute to company growth, including but not limited to;

 ▪ Market responsibility – maintaining relationships with Market managers, developing robust strategies and trading the overall apparel / accessories business to drive performance

▪ Cross divisional projects – e.g. managing styling for content, marketing liaison, ecommerce liaison

▪ Identify opportunities outside of own department to drive trade

▪ Attend meetings with senior leaders where necessary and confidently discuss performance and contribute to overall trade

Workplace Health and Safety

▪ Comply with the Company’s WHS policies and procedures

▪ Take reasonable care for personal safety and that of other individuals within the workplace

▪ Report any hazardous conditions, near misses, incidents and injuries in a timely manner and in accordance with relevant procedures

▪ Participate in meetings, training and other workplace health and safety activities

▪ Do not wilfully place at risk the health or safety of any individual in the work place

▪ Do not wilfully or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interest of workplace health and safety or welfare

▪ Cooperate with the Company in relation to activities taken to comply with WHS legislation and WHS standards

Ideal Candidate:

Qualifications

▪ Proven track record at Snr / Buyer level and able to demonstrate an ability to independently manage categories and contribute to improving performance across the wider business

Skills & Experience

▪ Ability to manage a high workload and can work to tight deadlines, to trade the department to its maximum potential

▪ Ability to drive department performance autonomously, taking commercial decisions to meet financial parameters.

▪ Willingness to participate in additional projects to improve top line business performance

 ▪ Will be able to seek advice when necessary, and gain support from key stakeholders across the business and an ability to give and receive feedback
