Outside The Box Recruitment is excited to be headhunting the HEAD OF DESIGN of WOMENSWEAR TREND & WHOLESALE.

Our client is based and designs a full womenswear range in Australia. They have a large retail and wholesale global presence and is known for their effortlessly wearable and timeless collections with 80% of the collections is sustainable.

This role is responsible for managing all design-based activities for the brand and involves overseeing a team of designers. The core focus for this role is to develop key trends, concepts, colour direction, key fabrics which are adopted by the Design and Buying teams for northern and southern hemisphere collections. In addition, the role is responsible for designing wholesale collections for wholesale accounts e.g. ASOS.

Additional to the basic salary, is a working sponsorship, relocation package for the family

Reporting direct to – Managing Director with Direct Reports including:

▪    Senior Designers X2, Senior Trend Designer, Senior Textile Designer, and Designer

Internal Stakeholders:

  • Buying department
  • QA and Production departments
  • Marketing & Digital department
  • Relationship Manager
  • Planning department

External Stakeholders – Support services departments

Key Responsibilities:

TREND & DESIGN

  • Manage the end-to-end design process and confirmation of key trends including concepts, colour direction, fabrication and print direction.
  • Working with external colour and trend forecast company to develop colour palettes and stories for NH/SH
  • Present concept boards detailing design themes, key looks/outfits, colour palettes and key fabrics for all collections and seasonal categories, referencing catwalks, social, bloggers, influencers and other sources of inspiration
  • Develop trend colour prints for all markets by range drops and design capsules for wholesale accounts (ASOS)
  • Present design trends once confirmation is received from Managing Director and Head of Buying
  • Develop initial trend fits
  • Liaise with the internal Fabric team on fabric requirements and fabric development
  • Ensure designs are reviewed prior to internal sample production
  • Communicate workflow to the internal Pattern room and prioritise required output/deliverables inconjunction with the General Manager Production and Quality and Head of Buying
  • Ensure team are empowered creatively
  • Undertake weekly catch ups with Designers to review development samples and work in progress
  • Partner with the Buying teams and drive design concepts
  • Manage the critical path for the Design department, ensuring first samples deadlines are achieved
  • Work with the Design and Buying teams to ensure ranges can be merchandised effectively into clear stories
  • Ensure ranges accurately represent the brand’s handwriting, vision and direction
    Undertake overseas sourcing trips, and/or factory visits as required and requested

RANGING

  • Participate in the range process and communicate key looks, trends, fabrication and colour palettes
    to Buyers and Designers
  • Attend ranging workshops and present wholesale range development samples
  • Participate in pre-sign off and sign-off meetings

WHOLESALE

  • Design wholesale ranges, determining design direction, colour palette, fabric and print direction   Develop storyboards for all wholesale ranges
  • Oversee development of print designs and development of design concepts   Communicate design direction to the Accessories team
  • Confirm pricing prior to range completion and presentation of the collection to the Managing Director,
    CEO and Head of Buying
  • Communicate wholesale range to Buyers and Designer
  • Liaise with Fabric team on fabrication requirements
  • Share details of purchased samples to Designers, Buyers and QA teams
  • Ensure production samples are fitted by the Trend team in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure design team liaise with Buyers on strike offs, graphics, trims and lab dips
  • Attend weekly meetings with QA, Design and Production teams to discuss critical path updates, fabric
    and strike off issues, delivery delays, style changes and other relevant updates
  • Liaise with Managing Director and Head of Buying to determine product integration of wholesale
    range into main range

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

 QUALIFICATION

Qualification in Fashion Design (essential)

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 7 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Exception knowledge of all fabrications, raw materials, product categories and garment construction
  • Soundtrack record in working across international markets
  • Sound commercial acumen and business judgement
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and effectively plan and be proactive in all facets of the role
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, communication and networking abilities
  • Outstanding organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent hand sketching skills and a strong creative flair
  • Experience is designing and developing products from initial concept, sketch, specification and through to sampling
  • Experience in ranging cohesive collections
  • Enthusiastic approach – positive, proactive and ambitious and entrepreneurial
  • Must be a team player, working closely and collaboratively with internal teams to ensure the timely delivery of activities
  • An ability to develop, nurture and manage positive working relationships and deliver excellent client service with both internal and external clients
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise competing demands, guidelines and standards
  • Results driven and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work effectively and level-headed under pressure
  • Ability to direct creative work and ensure the best creative outcome
  • Aptitude and willingness to undertake further learning and future development within the business
